The Spanish government has published the new radio spectrum plan, implementing the latest decisions by the ITU, EU and other standards bodies. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation said the updated CNAF prepares the way for releasing the 26 GHz band for 5G services and reserves spectrum for private mobile networks. It also updates the conditions of use for several wireless applications, such as intelligent transport systems and traffic information, and medical implants.
The plan sets aside 20 MHz in the 2,300-2,400 MHz range for enterprise private networks. This will allow companies to have spectrum for their own applications, such as industrial processes. The spectrum designation includes 10 MHz for preferential use by public service networks, such as electricity, gas and water utilities.
A separate public consultation also was opened on the 26 GHz band, to asses market plans for the frequencies and help design the auction planned for the spectrum in the second half of 2022. Comments can be submitted until 31 January 2022.
