Sunrise acquires Ortel Mobile Switzerland
Swiss operator Sunrise has acquired MVNO Ortel Mobile Switzerland to strengthen its position in the market for low-cost, pre-paid international services. Ortel Mobile Switzerland was owned privately by Swiss investors Treternity and licenses the Ortel Mobile brand from KPN. The non-material acquisition of Ortel Mobile was completed on 18 July. Financial terms have not been disclosed. Sunrise will continue to operate Ortel Mobile as a separate company with its existing employees. Ortel Mobile services will be offered under the existing Ortel Mobile brand. Earlier this month Sunrise acquired a similar MVNO, Lebara Switzerland.

Sunrise ends H1 with 2.93 million customers

Swiss operator Sunrise has reported revenue of CHF 984 million for the first half of 2013, down 3.8 percent from a year earlier. EBITDA was down 6.2 percent to CHF 292 million. Lebara selects German unit chief for push into new markets

Ethnic MVNO Lebara Mobile has appointed Scott Rankin, currently managing director of its German subsidiary, to the newly created post of 'Managing Director - New Countries', reports Telecom Handel. This appointment is effective from September and will see Ranking become responsible for developing the Lebara brand in new countries and regions. Sunrise signs deal to access fibre network in Fribourg

Swiss operator Sunrise has signed a contract with ftth fr, a JV between the State of Fribourg, Groupe E, Gruyere Energie and IB-Murten, for use of the fibre-optic network in the canton on Fribourg. Ftth fr is rolling out a fibre-optic network to cover more than 90 percent of households and 100 percent of businesses across the canton of Fribourg by 2028. Sunrise will use the network to deliver services to customers, with the first customers connected from end-autumn 2013.

Sunrise offers new LTE 'Take Away' plans for tablet users

Swiss operator Sunrise is expanding its 'Take Away' portfolio with new LTE mobile broadband tariffs for notebook and tablet users. The new Take Away Start tariff for tablets offers LTE mobile broadband from CHF 7.50 a month with 250 MB data . The Take Away Classic tariff costs CHF 15 and offers 1 GB data plus 25 MB data roaming. The Take Away Classic, Relax and Max tariffs now include data roaming allowances from 25 to 100 MB (covering Region 1). Take Away Relax costs CHF 35 and offers 5 GB LTE mobile data

Yallo launches international airtime transfer service

Sunrise's prepaid MVNO Yallo has launched a new service called Yallo Transfer. This allows customers to transfer pe-paid credit to a pre-paid mobile phone number of a foreign provider. Yallo targets the service at foreign nationals living in Switzerland. The recipient can use the credit for calls, sending text messages or surfing the internet from their phone. The service is provided in co-operation with international airtime transfer provider ezetop.

Sunrise acquires Lebara in Switzerland

Sunrise Communications has acquired Lebara in Switzerland. Combined with its existing yallo brand, the deal strengthens Sunrise's position in the market for pre-paid, low-cost international calls and data services. Lebara started its operations in Switzerland in March 2007, and the takeover was completed on 01 July. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. Sunrise launches commercial LTE services

Swiss operator Sunrise has announced the launch of LTE mobile broadband services, supporting data speeds of up to 100 Mbps. All Sunrise customers can access the service using a 4G-enabled smartphone, surf stick or notebook. The network covers more than 22 percent of Sunrise customers at launch, and will be expanded to cover 50 percent by end-October.
