T-Mobile US to roll out nationwide NB-IoT by mid-2018, 5G in 2020
T-Mobile US plans to light up the first nationwide Narrowband-IoT (NB-IoT) network in 2018. The company has also unveiled a new fleet management solution for businesses, adding to its SyncUP product family.

The company earlier held live field-tests of NB-IoT services in Las Vegas, together with Qualcomm and Ericsson. It says it will now launch the service continent-wide in mid-2018. The network will also support Cat-M, another IoT standard with also voice support, in 2018.

T-Mobile said it will also be using part of its 600 MHz spectrum to deliver a 5G network from coast to coast by 2020. 5G rollout is expected to begin in 2019, with a target of 2020 for full nationwide coverage.

Meanwhile, the new T-Mobile SyncUP Fleet will enable businesses of all sizes to get low-cost fleet management and monitoring, with the company saying the service can help reduce fuel consumption, maintenance issues and other costs. The service comes with connected hardware and a cloud-based platform with easy-to-use management tools businesses can access from their smartphone, tablet or desktop.

SyncUP Fleet was developed with Geotab and will be available this fall for USD 3 per month on T-Mobile’s interest-free 24 month equipment installment plan (EIP), with a USD 15 per month unlimited mobile data plan per vehicle.
