Deutsche Telekom's corporate arm T-Systems is set to embark on its restructuring and cost savings plan after the company reached a compromise with its works' council, reported German business publication WirtschaftsWoche (WiWo). Under the agreement, a total of 3,765 jobs will be eliminated at T-Systems by the end of 2020, with another 1,200 positions then up for elimination if the company is not performing better economically, a spokesman for the company confirmed to DPA news agency.
Hundreds of employees have agreed to leave the company voluntarily, with T-Systems' management speaking of up to 5,600 job cuts in Germany as a result, added WiWo. The agreement on job cuts in Germany represents a "partial victory" for T-Systems CEO Adel Al-Saleh in his plan to save EUR 600 million through a series of job eliminations at T-Systems in Germany and around the world.
