Tech Mahindra sells Altiostar stake to Rakuten, partners on RCP sales

Tech Mahindra announced it has sold its stake in Altiostar to Rakuten for USD 45 million. Both companies were investors in Altiostar's series C funding in 2018-9 and work with Altiostar on developing its virtual RAN system. 

As part of the deal, Tech Mahinda has agreed to serve as a preferred partner for global go-to-market opportunities for the Rakuten Communications Platform (RCP), the open network platform developed by Rakuten as part of its launch as a mobile network operator in Japan. Tech Mahindra will provide its services and software capabilities to support the development and deployment of other mobile networks for global customers of RCP. 

In addition, Tech Mahindra will provide managed IT, security and network services to Rakuten Mobile, and there are also plans to designate Tech Mahindra as an official reseller of RCP.

Equinix announced that Rakuten Mobile Singapore, a subsidiary of Rakuten Mobile, selected Platform Equinix as a foundation to deliver its Rakuten Communications Platform (RCP) to global operators and enterprise customers. Japanese operator Rakuten said it has received approval from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the US to complete its investment in the US-based mobile technology company Altiostar Networks.
