Telefonica Germany said it will invest around EUR 4 billion to supply over 50 percent of the German population with 5G by the end of 2022. The company aims to serve over 30 percent of the country's population with 5G this year. Telefonica will build a so-called pure 5G network on the 3.6 GHz frequency and set up 3,000 3.6 GHz antennas.
The company is expanding 5G faster than 4G and it is on the way to supplying the entire country with 5G by the end of 2025. In the first half of this year, a record 1 billion gigabytes of data ran over the O2 network. Cities are data traffic hotspots, with a growing number of 5G users in cities contributing to shift data traffic to the 5G network.
