Deutsche Telekom said it plans to connect over 90 percent of the population of Germany with 5G by the end of this year. The company has now set up 55,000 antennas to supply 85 percent of people with 5G. Its 5G service on the fast 3.6 GHz frequency band is now available in over 60 German cities through over 2,400 antennas at around 800 locations.
Chief executive officer Tim Hoettges reiterated the goal to connect 10 million households with FTTH by 2024, and to provide nationwide coverage by 2030. This year, Telekom has built 430,000 gigabit-capable fibre-optic connections (FTTH) and it has laid over 30,000 km of fibre. The company is therefore on path to hit its target of building 1.2 million fibre-optic connections in 2021.
