Telefonica’s has announced that its Movistar+ pay-TV platform is now watched by 10 million viewers a day in Spain, according to data compiled from its set-top boxes. In a statement, the company said its STBs have been installed in nearly 4 million Spanish households and that average daily TV consumption now tops 200 minutes, with around 40 minutes a day, or 20 percent of the time, spent on catch-up TV content. The catch-up figure rises to 34 percent when sporting content is excluded, said Telefonica.
The operator added that nearly 80 percent of viewers, or 8 million a day, use VoD, while over half, or 5.2 million, use the 7-day catch-up feature. Finally, Telefonica said around 3.2 million users also use a smartphone, tablet or Smart TV to watch content from Movistar+.
Telefonica has just closed deals to air La Liga and Champions League games on its Movistar-branded channels over the next 3 seasons for a combined total of close to EUR 4 billion.
