Telefonica to air new Vamos sports channel to all subscribers

Telefonica has announced that its new sports-themed Vamos channel will be made available to all Movistar+ subscribers, even those signed up to its basic TV package, starting this weekend. Unveiled last month, Vamos ('Let's go') is intended to act as a showcase for the company’s range of paid sports content but in addition to sports news and highlights will also feature a handful of exclusive events to build up audience loyalty, said Telefonica. 

The company has secured a large share of the Spanish rights to premium sports content, including the Champions League and Europa League as well as domestic La Liga football, and will include selected content from the premium Movistar+ sports channels on Vamos, as well as basketball, Formula 1, MotoGP, tennis and a particular focus on women's sport.

The company revealed in July that the Movistar+ pay-TV platform was watched by 10 million viewers a day in Spain.

Telefonica has renewed its agreement with the Spanish basketball association, ACB, to broadcast all domestic league and cup competitions on its Movistar+ pay-TV platform until 2023. The new deal will see Movistar+ air the Endesa League, Endesa Super Cup and Copa del Rey over the next 3 seasons on an exclusive basis. In total, over 1,000 matches will be broadcast live over the 3-year period, including the match of the day on the Vamos channel and the remaining games on Movistar Deportes.

Telefonica adds women's football to Movistar+ content

Telefonica has announced that it will be broadcasting Spain's main women's football competitions on an exclusive basis in Spain on its Movistar+ pay-TV platform. All games from the top-tier Liga Iberdrola league and Copa de la Reina domestic cup competition will be aired live on the company's new sports-themed Vamos channel starting with the Atletico de Madrid versus Sevilla game on 09 February.

Telefonica's Movistar+ TV service hits 10 mln viewers milestone

Telefonica's has announced that its Movistar+ pay-TV platform is now watched by 10 million viewers a day in Spain, according to data compiled from its set-top boxes. In a statement, the company said its STBs have been installed in nearly 4 million Spanish households and that average daily TV consumption now tops 200 minutes, with around 40 minutes a day, or 20 percent of the time, spent on catch-up TV content. The catch-up figure rises to 34 percent when sporting content is excluded, said Telefonica.
