Telegram announced an update that lets end-users turn on their camera or share their screen during Voice Chats in groups, on all devices, including tablets and desktops. This brings voice chats to a new level, ready for online classes, business meetings and family gatherings, the company said. The firm is also introducing animated backgrounds, stylish message animations and more new features.
Group video calls, screen sharing
Voice chats in any group can now turn into group video calls by tapping the camera icon to switch the video on. While audio-only participants are unlimited, video is currently available for the first 30 people who join the voice chat. This limit will increase soon, the company said.
In addition to their camera feed, end-users can also share their screen, or use both at the same time.
Noise suppression, tablet and desktop support
The company also improved noise suppression in voice chats and added a toggle to turn noise suppression off in settings.
In addtion, tablets and computers have more screen space and offer more display options – tap to open the side panel and see a split-screen view of the video grid and list of participants, optimised for both portrait and landscape orientation.
Group video calls on tablets
Voice chats on desktop open in a separate window, so they can type and talk without minimising anything. Desktop apps also have selective screensharing so they can broadcast an individual programme instead of their whole screen.
