
Telekom Austria may swap Vip for OTE stake in Telekom Srbija

Telekom Austria is looking to swap its Serbian mobile operator Vip with Deutsche Telekom in order to gain control of the bigger operator Telekom Srbija. According to Serbian daily Blic, the Austrian company is negotiating a deal to buy the Serbia government's 31 percent stake in Telekom Srbija as well as acquire OTE's 20 percent in the Serbian operator. Telekom Austria is offering OTE's parent company Deutsche Telekom to swap Vip for the 20 percent stake inTelekom Srbija held by OTE. A Serbian government spokesperson told the paper that this would be a "win-win" combination, as the state would get the required EUR 840 million for the 31 percent stake, Telekom Austria would take over 51 percent without having to pay too much, and Deutsche Telekom would finally enter the Serbian market through Vip Mobile.
