Telekom, Vodafone want merged O2/E-Plus to give up spectrum
Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone have expressed concern about the concessions forced upon Telefonica by the EC for approval of its takeover of E-Plus, reports Reuters. Deutsche Telekom said the merger would create a "massive" imbalance in radio frequencies above 1 GHz. Vodafone called on the German regulator to "take back significant amounts of spectrum" from the merged group. Among the conditions imposed by the EC, Telefonica is expected to sell holdings in the 2.1 and 2.6 GHz bands to a new operator on the market. The sale could be coordinated with the upcoming spectrum auction planned in Germany.
