Telstra, AWS partner on edge computing services

Australian operator Telstra has signed an agreement with Amazon Web Services to explore differentiated multi-access network edge computing. Telstra says the major focus in this partnership is exploring the integration of Amazon Web Services’ edge compute services into its multi-access network, enabling 5G devices to access edge compute applications without leaving the Telstra network.

Telstra and AWS plan to start collaborating on a number of edge computing services, to develop services designed to enable companies to deploy applications closer to their customers.

The partnership seeks to accelerate digital transformation at enterprise and government agencies, making new capabilities possible that require network resilience, data sovereignty and low latency, such as autonomous and smart cars, smart cities and smart stores, defence, industrial automation, augmented and virtual reality, artificial intelligence and machine learning at the edge and a wide range of IoT applications.

As part of this agreement with AWS, Telstra is also launching a Centre of Excellence, designed to help enterprise and government organisations with their digital transformations and adopt cloud technology.
