Telus to acquire Public Mobile
Canadian operator Telus has agreed to acquire its smaller rival Public Mobile. The transaction was already approved by Industry Canada, but still needs clearance from the Competition Bureau.

Public Mobile has around 280,000 customers. In June the company was acquired by a group of private equity companies. No financial details of the deal were released.

Telus said it would migrate Public Mobile customers to its LTE network and look at deploying the operator's PCS G block spectrum for mobile broadband. Telus was earlier blocked by the government from acquiring Mobilicity, another of the new entrants on the mobile market from the spectrum auction in 2008. However, as Public Mobile's frequencies were not part of the spectrum auction reserved for newcomers, the acquisition was allowed to go ahead.
