TIM relaunches smart home platform with new router and STB

Telecom Italia (TIM) has rebranded its fibre-led smart home ecosystem, calling it TIM Home Platform and basing it round a new router called TIM Hub and a new decoder called TIM Box. In a statement, the company said the platform will act as the “technological heart” of the smart home for Italian families, providing advanced devices and services connected to the domestic Internet of Things network. The company’s new TIM Hub router will be available from September for all customers signed up to the Smart Fibra Plus 200 and Smart Fibra Plus 1000 offers. It features a download capacity of up to 2Gbps, with 6 antennas to optimise the use of frequencies and offer improved Wi-Fi speeds.

The new Android TV-based TIM Box decoder, meanwhile, is intended to complement the design of TIM Hub and give customers direct access to the company’s TIMvision and TIMgames entertainment services. The 4K HDR device features dual band 2.4/5GHz Wi-Fi connectivity, 32GB for apps and a new remote control for voice searches. Customers will be able to use it to view the over 10,000 titles and premium content offered via TIMvision and access the home gaming platform TIMgames, for which the company has created a new TIM Gamepad.

Mediaset content available on TIMvision platform

Telecom Italia (TIM) has announced that the live and on-demand programming of FTA broadcaster Mediaset is finally available on its TIMvision platform over a year after the companies reached a content and distribution deal. Subscribers to TIMvision can now access the programming of Mediaset's Canale5, Italia1 and Retequattro channels as well as the free-to-air themed channels La5, TGCom24, Mediaset Extra, 20, Iris, Italia2, Top Crime and Focus on mobile devices, smart TVs and compatible game consoles.

Telecom Italia adds Amazon Prime Video to TIM Box decoder

Telecom Italia (TIM) has announced an agreement with Amazon to offer the e-commerce giant's Prime Video catalogue of movies and TV series via the TIM Box decoder. Under the terms of the deal Prime Video will be available to all TIMvision customers already subscribed to Amazon Prime, who will be able to search for Prime Original productions using the decoder's "search and recommendations" options.

Shortly after Amazon officially launched Alexa in Italy, TIM said the voice assistant would enable its customers to access information on their contracted services and control smart home services and smart devices connected to the internet via simple voice commands.

The company's initial content productions will be revolutionary teen series "SKAM Italia", to be followed by "Dark Polo Gang - The Series" and "L'amica geniale" ["My Brilliant Friend"], with further Italian and international film productions to follow in 2018.

Telecom Italia (TIM) has announced the launch of a free package for all mobile customers containing zero-rated music, video and gaming content for 12 months. Under the 'TIM Show' offer, the operator will make available a selection of 2,500 songs from TIM Music, 40 original short TV series from Studio+, games from Gameloft plus news and current affairs from TIM MyNews without consuming data from customer bundles. To access the content, TIM mobile users need to download a dedicated app for each service.

TIM invests over EUR 1 mln in Fermo fibre rollout

Telecom Italia (TIM) has activated a fibre-optic network in the town of Fermo in the central Marche region in a total investment of around EUR 1.2 million.
