Videocon to deploy more sites, scraps spectrum plans
Indian GSM mobile operator Videocon Telecom has decided not to participate in the upcoming spectrum auction. The company earlier said it would bid for additional spectrum in several circles but now says it will deploy more sites rather than acquiring more spectrum. "In Punjab circles, 25 out of 92 blocks are not available in Ludhiana and Amritsar, and these are places where we are facing a little congestion, so we'd rather deploy more sites than acquiring spectrum. So it doesn't make any sense for us to bid here," The Economic Times quotes Videocon CEO Arvind Bali as saying.

Videocon to launch 4G by December

Indian communications provider Videocon Telecommunications expects to launch its 4G services by December, The Economic Times reports. The service will be offered through FDD-LTE technology, according to the report. Videcon targets revenues of INR 25 bln this year

Indian mobile operator Videocon Telecom has reported revenues of INR 10.49 billion for the 2013-14 fiscal year owing to strong growth across its four operating circles. Videocon targets revenues of INR 25 billion for this financial year, PTI reports citing Videocon Telecom CEO Arvind Bali. The company further plans to expand services to the Bihar, Uttar Pradesh East and West circles, in which it also owns licences, this year.

Indian mobile operator Videocon Telecom is in talks with potential partners to grow its business. "Like any growing organisation, we too seek partnerships and investments to grow our business, and there is interest shown by others for partnering and investment," the Economic Times quotes chief executive Arvind Bali as saying. Videocon deploys Wi-Fi hotspots in Punjab

Indian mobile operator Videocon Telecom has rolled out a Wi-Fi service in the Punjab telecommunications circle and plans to expand it to other circles as well. The company has installed Wi-Fi hotspots in Punjab in areas where data demand is surging, the Economic Times writes citing Videocon chief executive Arvind Bali. The company has chosen Huawei to deploy infrastructure in Punjab and Videocon plans tie-ups with other vendors to create Wi-Fi zones in other areas.

Videocon to bid for additional spectrum

Videocon Telecom will bid for an additional 2 MHz of spectrum in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab telecom circles at the upcoming auction, NDTV reports. At present, it has 4.4 MHz of spectrum in Punjab and 5 MHz of spectrum in Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh telecom circles, but it is already nearing peak capacity in some areas. Videocon Telecom slashes roaming call rates by 50%

India-based Videocon Telecom has slashed outgoing roaming rates to half the original price, reports The Economic Times. Consumers can now make local outgoing calls at INR 0.5 per minute and STD calls at INR 0.75 per minute when away from the city.
