Viettel wins mobile licence in Peru
Vietnamese military-run mobile operator Viettel has won Peru's fourth mobile operator licence, the investment agency ProInversion announced. The company plans to invest around USD 27 million in the new network and begin operations in the first half of this year, the Wall Street Journal reports. Viettel will be joining Claro, Movistar, and Nextel del Peru in the mobile market, with a licence in the 1900MHz band.

Still no launch date for Viettel operations in Peru

Vietnamese military-run Viettel has still not set an exact date for its mobile operations launch in Peru, local newspaper Gestion reports, citing Viettel Peru CEO Hoang Quoc Quyen. Back in November, Quyen said Viettel would commercially launch its mobile services in Peru at the beginning of 2014. However, the Viettel executive now says that the operator wants to complete its infrastructure deployment before officially announcing the commercial launch of its mobile operations in Peru.

Vietnamese military-run Viettel will commercially launch its mobile services in Peru at the beginning of 2014, El Comercio reports, citing Viettel Peru CEO Hoang Quoc Quyen. According to the Viettel executive, the company has already deployed 70 percent of its network in Peru and plans to complete its infrastructure deployment by end-2013. The remaining 30 percent that still has to be deployed mostly covers the Lima capital area.

Viettel signs 900 MHz spectrum contract in Peru

Peru's Agency for Promotion of Private Investment (ProInversion) has awarded a license in the 900 MHz spectrum to Vietnamese military-run Viettel. Viettel won 32 MHz of spectrum in the 899-915 MHz and 944-960 MHz bands in Lima and Callao provinces as well as in the 902-915 MHz and 947-960 MHz bands for the rest of the country in August.

Vietnamese military-run Viettel has won the tender for four frequency bands in the 900 MHz spectrum in Peru. Peru's Agency for Promotion of Private Investment (ProInversion) has awarded Viettel 32 MHz of spectrum in the 899-915 MHz and 944-960 MHz bands in Lima and Callao provinces as well as in the 902-915 MHz and 947-960 MHz bands for the rest of the country.

Vietnamese military-run Viettel has established a unit in Lima, Peru. Viettel won Peru's fourth mobile operator licence, in the 1900MHz band, in January and has now established Viettel Peru. The operator said it conducted a survey of 1,500 locations in Peru to prepare for network development, Vietnam Business News reports.

Vietnamese communications group Viettel is hoping to expand to Argentina. Viettel deputy general director Nguyen Manh Hung revealed this ambition at a meeting with the Argentine secretary of communications, Carlos Lisandro Salas, Vietnam Business News writes. In March, Viettel was granted a mobile licence for Peru and the company plans to continue to study other markets in Latin America.
