Vodacom Tanzania, Azam Telecom win spectrum in 700 MHz band auction

Tanzania has raised USD 20 million from Vodacom Tanzania and newcomer Azam Telecom in a spectrum auction. Vodacom Tanzania acquired 2x10 MHz in the 700 MHz band for USD 10.01 million and Azam Telecom acquired 2x10 MHz for USD 10 million. The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) said Vodacom and Azam must ensure their mobile broadband services reach 60 percent of the population by 2021, rising to 90 percent by 2024.
