Vodafone and Thyssenkrupp announced plans to outfit over 1 million elevators worldwide with sensors and SIM cards. SIM cards integrated into the elevators’ MAX Boxes can communicate with technicians to inform them of defects or damages ahead of time as part of an early-warning system, by transmitting data in real-time on door movements, internally placed calls or error codes to the cloud, said Vodafone.
Roughly 120,000 elevators in Germany, South Korea, Spain and the US are already connected via the MAX Box to the Internet of Things, they added.
