Vodafone launches gigabit LTE in Germany

Vodafone Germany announced the launch of the first mobile base stations supporting speeds of 1 Gbps. The top speed is available initially in Duesseldorf, Hamburg, Berlin and Hanover, and the new Huawei Mate 10 Pro, unveiled in Munich, will be the first to support 1 Gbps LTE. All Vodafone customers with LTE tariffs can access the new speed. 

Earlier this year Vodafone started rolling out 500 Mbps on its 4G network, and this speed is now available in 20 cities. The company has also started its roll-out of gigabit speeds on fixed networks. 

The gigabit LTE is delivered using multi-carrier aggregation and 256 QAM signal transmission.

The Huawei Mate Pro 10 is available to pre-order from 17 October in a choice of titanium grey or mocha brown. Pre-buyers benefit from a bundle offer of a Moleskine Smartwriting Set and carrier bag free from Huawei. The new flagship phone from Huawei is available at Vodafone in combination with a Red tariff starting at EUR 199.90.

Vodafone Germany releases Upload Option 50 to boost cable upload rates

Vodafone Germany has released a new option that enables cable customers to increase the upload rates of their cable connection by up to 50 Mbps. Customers of the Red Internet & Phone 100, 200 and 400 tariff can book the Upload Option 50 for EUR 2.99 per month to boost their upload transmission rates. The tariff option has a minimum contract period of only one month and can be cancelled with a four-week notice period.

Vodafone Germany to offer rebates up to EUR 150 with cable, DSL tariffs through August

Vodafone Germany is offering new broadband customers a rebate of up to EUR 150 if they register for a broadband tariff with Vodafone by 06 August, reported tariftipp.de. The promotion is only open to new customers, while the amount of the rebate depends on whether customers book a DSL or cable tariff. All subscriptions are valid for 24 months, cost EUR 19.99 per month for the first twelve months and come with a EUR 49.99 activation fee.

Vodafone Germany doubles upload speeds on LTE network to 100 Mbps

Vodafone Germany said it has doubled the upload speeds available to customers of all of Vodafone''s LTE tariffs in 450 cities to 100 Mbps from 50 Mbps previously. The new upload speeds are available in cities like Berlin, Duesseldorf and Essen as well as more rural areas like Flieden, Karben and Melbeck. The first smartphones to support these new upload speeds are Sony's Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ2.

Vodafone Germany announced it has launched a pre-marketing campaign with the district government of Celle in Lower Saxony, Germany, for the construction of a gigabit-speed broadband network, as part of Vodafone's recently launched GigaOffensive investment programme. The district of Celle will invest EUR 46 million into the construction of a 3,000-km fibre-optic network, which Vodafone will lease out and operate, said Vodafone. Vodafone Germany expands LTE network with 118 new sites

Vodafone Germany said it has activated 118 LTE sites in the last four weeks, bringing an average of one new LTE station online every 6 hours and connecting roughly 100,000 households to its 4G mobile network. The company has connected over 50 previously unserved areas in Germany to its LTE network and further built up its LTE network in urban areas as a result of these upgrades, said Vodafone. Vodafone, Germany's County Association stress importance of fibre in broadband rollout

Vodafone Germany and the Association of German Counties issued a statement emphasizing their determination to roll out FTTH connections across Germany's municipalities and rural districts. At an event in Berlin, the association praised the incoming German government's coalition agreement for recognizing the importance of fibre, but said the government needs to apply pressure and ensure a consequent, nationwide FTTB/H rollout rather than fall back on FTTC, said president of the association Reinhard Sager.

Vodafone Germany service revenue growth improves in Q2 as customer base grows

Vodafone Germany reported service revenues up 1.6 percent in its fiscal second quarter, an improvement from 0.6 percent annual growth in the previous quarter. Excluding regulatory effects, the operator said service revenue was up 3.0 percent, driven by improved mobile contract customer growth, which more than offset the drag from roaming price cuts in the EU.
