Vodafone, Orange to jointly deploy FTTH in Spain – report

Vodafone and Orange are in advanced talks over the joint deployment of a FTTH network in Spain. A partnership agreement is expected to be signed soon, local newspaper Expansion reports, citing unnamed sources close to the negotiations.

According to the same sources, via this agreement, Vodafone and Orange seek to share mainly the cost of the vertical network sections deployment, i.e. laying of optical fiber within buildings and up to the customers’ homes. However, the operators may also plan a broader collaboration, and also share the costs of horizontal cabling across city streets.

Movistar and Jazztel have signed a similar agreement in October 2012.
