Vodafone to slash 1,000 jobs in Spain – report

Vodafone plans to launch a labour force adjustment plan in Spain. The move would reduce Vodafone’s workforce in Spain by 25 percent, cutting nearly 1,000 jobs, local newspaper ABC reports, citing unnamed union sources.

According to the same sources, the plan is expected to be presented to the Spanish Ministry of Labour next week. The Vodafone staff currently includes around 4,300 employees in Spain.

The workforce reduction measure seeks to counteract the decline in revenues affecting the Vodafone group’s Spanish unit. Vodafone Spain reported service revenue down 12 percent year-on-year on an organic basis and 20.8 percent on a reported basis in the fiscal first half to 30 September, to EUR 1.9 billion from EUR 2.5 billion in September 2011.
