Lime to cut 100 jobs in Barbados

Cable and Wireless has reached an agreement with the Barbados Workers Union (BWU), avoiding the union’s planned nationwide strike. The union planned to go on strike over the dismissal of nearly 100 workers earlier this month, Caribbean 360 reports, citing BWU general secretary, Sir Roy Trotman.

Cable and Wireless Barbados, operating under the Lime brand name, has recently announced it would outsource its retail operations in a bid to improve its financial position. Lime managing director Alex McDonald said that the company will lay off 97 employees, but will create 48 new positions.
