Walmart sells Vudu to Comcast's Fandango
US-based retailer Walmart has sold its Vudu streaming service to Fandango, a US ticketing company owned by Comcast that itself also controls Flixster, Movies.com and Rotten Tomatoes. Vudu, which did not provide any financial details, said it will continue to provide all services and that it will will in the future also provide new features, offerings and benefits. Nothing will change for customers, who will be able to keep their move and TV libraries as are. Vudu apps will also continue to work, as before.

Reports started surfacing in October, that Walmart was looking to let go of Vudu. Talk then started in February that Comcast was interested.

To date, the Vudu app on mobile has been installed over 14.5 million times, TechCrunch reported, adding that Vudu will continue, as part of the agreement, to power Walmart’s digital movie and TV store on Walmart.com. The acquisition of Vudu is expected to close in coming months, Walmart said.

Comcast bought streaming service Xumo in February, and launched its Peacock streaming service this month.
