WhatsApp sets new daily traffic record
Mobile messaging service WhatsApp announced a new traffic record. The company said on Twitter that its users sent over 10 billion messages and received another 17 billion in just one day, for a total of 27 billion messages in 24 hours. The company last reported a record on New Year's Eve last year of over 18 billion messages.

WhatsApp drops initial fee for iOS users

WhatsApp has stopped charging an initial fee for its iOS app. The version of the messaging app for Apple users is now free the first year, the same as for Android and other platforms, rather than costing USD 0.99 upfront. Saudi Arabian watchdog denies report of WhatsApp suspension

Saudi Arabia's telecommunications regulator has again denied a report that it has decided to suspend WhatsApp in the country, according to Al Arabiya. Citing unnamed high-level sources, the London-based Al-Hayat Arabic daily said the Communication and Information Technology Commission (CITC) is set to suspend the WhatsApp smartphone application within days. Worldwide IP-based mobile message traffic is expected to catch up with SMS this year, at nearly 10 trillion each, according a study by business mobile systems integrator Tyntec and GigaOM Research. Mobile messaging service WhatsApp announced a new daily traffic record for New Year's eve. On 31 December, the app processed 7 billion inbound messages and 11 billion outbound messages, for a total 18 billion. WhatsApp announced the record on its Twitter account.
