Xiaomi, Ikea announce smart lighting partnership

Xiaomi has announced a smart homes partnership with retailer Ikea at its AIoT Developer Conference in Beijing. Under the terms of the deal, Ikea’s full range of smart lighting products will be connected to Xiaomi’s IoT ecosystem starting this December in China. The partners said users will be able to control Ikea smart lighting devices via the Xiao Ai voice assistant and the Mi Home app after connecting to the Mi Control Hub through the ZigBee protocol.

No specific information on new products was announced but Xiaomi said its IoT platform had connected more than 132 million smart devices at the end of September and had over 20 million daily active devices in more than 200 countries and regions around the world. Its Xiaomi Xiao Ai voice assistant, meanwhile, had been activated on about 100 million devices, with monthly active users exceeding 34 million and cumulative wake-up times exceeding 8 billion.

Xiaomi announced revenues of CNY 174.9 billion for 2018, up 52.6 percent. The Chinese company benefited from its expansion abroad, with international revenues more than doubling to CNY 70 billion, as well as expansion into new product categories and services, such as smart TVs and speakers. Net profit for the year totaled CNY 13.5 billion, compared to a loss of CNY 43.9 billion in 2017, and adjusted net profit grew 59.5 percent to CNY 8.6 billion.

Xiaomi launches ShareSave e-commerce platform in India

Xiaomi has announced the launch of a new cross-border e-commerce platform called ShareSave that is designed to offer consumers a way to purchase products from its IoT and lifestyle ecosystem that have only been available within the Chinese mainland. In a statement, the Chinese brand described ShareSave as a global initiative that will initially be made available in India alone as an Android app on the Google Play Store.

Xiaomi targets expansion in connected devices, global smartphone market

Xiaomi has outlined its strategy going forward at its annual party in Beijing, saying it will have two core areas: smartphones and AIoT (AI + IoT). The company will invest CNY 10 billion in AIoT in the next five years, in order to grow further its base of 132 million connected devices, founder and CEO Lei Jun said.

Xiaomi revenues lift 49% in Q3, boosted by international shipments

Xiaomi said revenues for the third quarter rose over 49 percent from the year before to CNY 50.846 billion. The company's net profit went to CNY 2.481 billion, a slide from the 14.6 billion recorded in the previous quarter. The adjusted net profit reached CNY 2.885 billion, up 17.3 percent year-on-year and 36.3 percent quarter-on-quarter. Smartphone shipments year-to-date passed 100 million units, reaching the company's target two months ahead of schedule.

Xiaomi to officially launch on UK market on 08 November

Chinese internet and smartphone company Xiaomi will officially launch on the UK market on 08 November. The UK team will be led by Sales and Marketing Director Wilkin Lee. Xiaomi officially launched in Western Europe in November 2017 in Spain, followed by launches in France and Italy in May 2018.

Xiaomi has reported its first set of quarterly results since its IPO, showing revenues rose 68 percent year-on-year in the second quarter to CNY 45.2 billion. The company shipped 32.0 million smartphones in the period, an increase of 44 percent from a year earlier.

Xiaomi has confirmed the start of its initial public offering of shares in Hong Kong. The company will sell 108.98 million shares to local investors and 2.07 billion in an international offering, at a price range of HKD 17-22 per share. Subscription starts 25 June, and the shares are expected to trade from 09 July.

Xiaomi unveils flagship Mi 8 smartphones, standalone VR headset

Xiaomi has unveiled its new flagship smartphone series, the Mi 8, at an event Shenzen, as well as its standalone VR headset developed with Oculus. The Mi 8 and Mi 8 SE will launch first in China in June, while a more premium edition, the Mi 8 Explorer with in-display fingerprint reader and 3D face unlock, will be available later.

Retailer Ikea has bumped up its smart home offering by entering into a partnership with speakers maker Sonos. Together, the two parties will study how sound can contribute to life at home. Based on their conclusions, the two companies will develop smart products that integrate a "great sound experience" into home furnishings. Ikea and Sonos said they want to make it possible for more people to create the "right atmosphere" in their home using sound and design.
