Xiaomi announced that it will meet its full-target for 100 million smartphones shipped already at the end of October. The announcement came at the unveiling of its latest flagship product, the Mi Mix 3, at the Forbidden City in Beijing.
In 2017, Xiaomi shipped 90 million smartphones. The company set the aim of passing 100 million shipments this year at its suppliers conference in September 2017. The growth has been driven by continuous expansion to new markets outside Asia, mainly in Europe. The company said it has reached a presence in over 70 countries, and already ranks in the top 5 phonemakers in 25 countries.
The new Mi Mix 3 smartphone builds on the full-screen display of its predecessor with an even smaller screen-to-body ratio of 93.4 percent thanks to the slide-out selfie camera, which avoids the notch common in many other recent top phones. The slider can also be customised to launch other functions such as answering a call and incorporate gaming features such as notifications or screen capture.
The 6.39-inch Amoled display offers a full HD+ resolution, and the phone also comes with a dedicated button to launch and customise the Xiao AI assistant, Qi wireless charging, a four-sided curved ceramic back panel, with the new colour option Sapphire Blue, and up to 10GB RAM. Dual cameras of 12 megapixels on the back and 24+2 MP on the front are also included, offering what Xiaom's says are its best low-light photos to date.
The Mi Mix 3 will be available starting in China on 01 November, starting at CNY 3,299 for 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage and going up to CNY 3,999 for 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage. A special version developed with the Palace Museum, featuring the Chinese mythical beast Xiezhi engraved on its back cover, will include the 10 GB RAM and sell for CNY 4,999. Availability of the phone in other markets will be announced at a later date.
