Xiaomi’s international business president, Chew Shou Zi announced his resignation and said he is joining TikTok owner ByteDance as its new chief financial officer. He will be based in his home country of Singapore, the South China Morning Post reported.
A ByteDance spokeswoman confirmed Chew’s new job. Xiaomi said earlier that Chew resigned for family reasons.
Chew wrote about the new job on Weibo, saying that he had been "away from home for 18 years" and would be going back to his home country, Singapore. ByteDance's regional headquarters is in Singapore, where it has been moving some of its corporate functions outside China.
Before joining Xiaomi in 2015, Chew worked for Goldman Sachs in London and later joined internet investment firm DST, where he was actively involved in Chinese tech investments.
