Yahoo lifts revenues, profit in Q4, delays Verizon close

Yahoo said revenues for the fourth quarter lifted to USD 1.469 billion from 1.273 billion the year before, with the net result rising to a gain of USD 162 million from a loss the year earlier of 4.530 billion. Earnings per diluted share went up to USD 0.17 from a loss of USD 4.70 while the adjusted EBITDA lifted to USD 324 million from 215 million. The year before, the company took a goodwill impairment charge of USD 4.530 billion.

CEO Marissa Mayer announced that she was pleased with the results and said the company was still preparing for integration with Verizon, which agreed in July to buy Yahoo for USD 4.8 billion. However, Mayer now expects to close the deal in the second quarter of this year, instead of in the first.

Yahoo’s display advertising revenue went 5 percent lower to USD 573 million despite a 4 percent increase in the number of ads sold, while mobile revenue strengthened to USD 459 million from 291 million and accounted for 24 percent of traffic-driven revenue. Revenue increased at Yahoo's Mavens strategic areas to USD 590 million from 472 million the year before. Total traffic driven revenue went up to USD 1.414 billion from 1.222 billion.

Cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities amounted to USD 7.910 billion at the end of December, up from 6.833 billion the year earlier.
