YouTube TV expands to 98% of US households

YouTube announced the launch of its subscription TV service in another 95 markets in the US. This means YouTube TV covers over 98 percent of households in the US, offering a combination of local, cable and streaming channels.

The service has reached national coverage less than two years after launch. The milestone also comes just ahead of the biggest TV moment of the year in the US, the Super Bowl match completing the American football season.

YouTube said that customers can receive local affiliates of the four national TV networks (CBS, ABC, NBC, Fox) in over 90 percent of the markets where its TV service is available. This coverage is key to providing customers with local news and sports content.

YouTube also includes popular cable networks like TNT, TBS, CNN, ESPN, FX and on-demand programming, as well as a cloud DVR with unlimited storage and six accounts per subscription to personalise favourite channels and recordings. The service costs USD 40 per month, around half that of a standard cable TV plan in the US.
