Amazon plans to release future James Bond films in theatres, Bond producer Barbara Broccoli told Sky News. Amazon “certainly have told us that the films will be theatrical films in the future. And we'll see what happens." The implication is that people will not need to have a Prime Video subscription to watch the films.
MGM made sure the latest Bond film, No Time to Die, would premiere in theaters and not online. The movie was scheduled to debut in April 2020, but this was delayed many times due to the covid-19 pandemic. It will finally launch on 30 September in the UK and 8 October in the US.
Amazon agreed to buy MGM in May, for USD 8.45 billion. A coalition of 34 advocacy groups, labour unions and trade associations, urged the FTC to not let the deal go through, calling it a "clear example of Amazon's larger pattern of monopolistic practices."
