Amazon's Kindle Fire sold out
Amazon has announced that its Kindle Fire tablet device has sold out in nine months. The Kindle Fire was Amazon's number-one selling product in the period since its launch and was credited with driving tablet sales in the US thanks to its low price tag of USD 199. Amazon did not say whether it plans a new version of the Android tablet. CEO Jeff Bezos said in a statement that while the Kindle Fire was sold out, "we have an exciting roadmap ahead—we will continue to offer our customers the best hardware, the best prices, the best customer service, the best cross-platform interoperability, and the best content ecosystem". The company is expected to announce new Kindle devices at a press event scheduled for 06 September.

Amazon announced a new range of Kindle Fire Android tablets. The new Kindle Fire HD comes with LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, increased storage and improved screen and battery life. Amazon to launch new Kindle Paperwhite

Amazon has introduced the fifth generation Kindle e-readers, called the Kindle Paperwhite. The Paperwhite offers 62 percent more pixels and 25 percent increased contrast, up to 8 weeks of battery life, 15 percent faster page turn and is the lightest and smallest Kindle offered. The Kindle Paperwhite also features built-in Wi-Fi, new capacitive touch technology and improved font. Amazon partners Nokia to add GPS to Kindle Fire - report

Amazon.com's new Kindle Fire will have mapping services via a tie-up with Nokia, two people familiar with the situation told Reuters. Amazon is expected to announced at least one new version of its Kindle Fire on 06 September. The new device will get location capabilities, which will require either a GPS chip or Wi-Fi triangulation. Amazon is working with Nokia to develop a mapping function for the Kindle Fire that does not rely on Google Maps, the sources said.

Global tablet shipments up 66% to 25 mln in Q2

Total worldwide tablet shipments for the second quarter reached an estimated 25 million units, up 66 percent from a year earlier, according to IDC.
