Apple confirms 12 September event to announce new iPhones

Apple has confirmed a press event for 12 September, when the company is expected to unveil a new generation of iPhones. The press conference is planned at its headquarters in California.  

The latest media reports have pointed to three new iPhones planned to launch for the year-end holiday season. These are expected to be two new models of iPhone X and a mid-range model, between the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

All three are expected to have a similar design to the iPhone X, and two should come with OLED screens, of 5.8 and 6.5 inches. The third device is thought to have a 6.1-inch LCD screen and be the cheapest of the new range. In general, the new phones should be cheaper than the iPhone X, in order to broaden Apple's potential market.

LG Display has won an OLED panels contract from Apple. Under the terms of the deal, LG Display will start shipping LCD and OLED panels to the US smartphone maker for the production of its iPhone devices in the second half of 2018, Newspim reports. LG Display is expected to ship 3-4 million OLED panels, and 20 million LCD smartphone panels to Apple in 2018. LG Display will produce the OLED panels for iPhone devices at its E6 6G plant in Paju.
