Apple uses Qualcomm licence in defence against Motorola
Apple filed a new lawsuit against Motorola Mobility, saying the iPhone 4S is protected under a licence agreement from Qualcomm. The lawsuit was filed 10 February in US District Court, in the Southern District of California, the Wall Street Journal reports. Apple is attempting to ward off future injunctions from Motorola. The company said it should be protected from such court orders because of its rights as a customer of Qualcomm, whose chips are licensed by Motorola. According to documents filed earlier in a case in Germany, Motorola had asked Qualcomm to revoke its licence to Apple, but Qualcomm refused. Apple also asked the US court to stop Motorola from seeking injunctions on the Qualcomm patent in Germany or elsewhere. Apple, Motorola and Qualcomm all declined to comment.
