Asus unveils new notebooks at Computex 2018

Asus unveiled new products at Computex 2018, including ZenBook Pro 15, ZenBook Pro 14 and ZenBook S (UX391), the lineup of VivoBook notebooks, and the VivoWatch BP wearable blood-pressure monitor. The company also unveiled Project Precog, a brand-new concept device and what it calls the world's first convertible dual-screen notebook equipped with AI features. The concept device's dual-screen form factor is designed to provide versatility and powerful productivity, and a full set of AI features, including AI Touch and AI Charging.

ZenBook Pro 15 and ZenBook Pro 14 run Windows 10, are faster and more sophisticated than ever and feature the ScreenPad input device, a brand-new way to interact with ZenBook that adapts to the user to provide effortless control. The Asus ZenBook Pro 15 (UX580) will be available mid-July at a MSRP of USD 2,299 from the Asus Store and large retailers. It comes with an 8th generation Intel Core i9 processor, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti discrete graphics, ultra-fast PCI Express-based storage, high-speed 2,400MHz DDR4 RAM, 802.11ac Wave 2 gigabit-class Wi-Fi and Thunderbolt 3 USB Type-C ports. The ZenBook 15 Pro with ScreenPad also features a built-in fingerprint reader for one-touch Windows Hello login.

Featuring up to an 8th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, the Asus ZenBook S (UX391) will be available from 11 June at a MSRP of USD 1,199 at Amazon, B & H, and other large retailers.

The line-up of VivoBook notebooks includes the VivoBook S15 (S530), S14 (S4 30) and VivoBook S13 (S330) lightweight laptops powered by the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 CPUs. The Asus VivoBook S15 will be available in late June, while the availability of the VivoBook S14 will be announced at a later date.

Along with the onstage announcements, Asus also showcased additional feature products in the press event demo area. The presented products included the Zen AiO 27 all-in-one PC, VivoBook Flip 14 convertible notebook, Lyra Voice 3-in-1 Smart Voice Router, RT-AX88U Wi-Fi router and AiMesh AX6100 Wi-Fi system (RT-AX92U 2-Pack), Mini PC ProArt PA90, and ProArt PA34V and VG49V monitors. The company also went on stage to talk about its partnership with Intel to build transformative notebooks.

Asus improves margins on revenues down 7% in Q2, sees better H2

Asus reported a further fall in revenues for the second quarter, down 7 percent year-on-year and 11 percent less than in Q1, at TWD 80.53 billion. However, the company's gross margin improved to 12.7 percent from 11.6 a year ago, and the operating margin rose to 3.5 percent from 2.0 percent. The company said it expects its mobile phone business to be profitable in the last quarter of 2018.
