BT awarded EUR 40 mln Spanish govt contract
BT announced that Spain’s central government has awarded it a contract to provide international communications services in a total of 120 countries, confirming earlier reports. Under the terms of the new, three-and-a-half-year agreement valued at EUR 39.97 million, BT will upgrade the government’s international network to increase the scope of services it provides to end-users.

The global network encompasses Spain’s embassies, consulates and trade offices as well as satellite-based connections to ten scientific research ships in the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea plus a Spanish polar research station in Antarctica. BT said the upgraded network will enable deployment of advanced digital solutions, such as virtual desktops and web-based applications for end-users, including citizens and foreign office staff.

BT Spain, which is reportedly for sale for around EUR 300 million, recently opened its expanded and relocated Madrid Cyber Security Operations Centre (Cyber SOC) in the northern suburb of Las Tablas.
