BT Group finance director to step down
BT Group has confirmed reports that Tony Chanmugam is stepping down as finance director, reports The Telegraph. The company said that it had started looking for a replacement. Chanmugam has been group finance director since 2008. Speculation about his role has been increasing after BT announced a management shake-up and confirmed an organisational restructure.

BT develops technology to block unwanted calls

BT has announced a new service to help customers avoid nuisance calls on their landlines. Recent research by Which? shows that 75 percent of customers receive an unwanted call each month and BT estimates the new service will enable it to divert up to 25 million unwanted calls a week. Vodafone has attacked BT for 'loading costs' onto national network unit Openreach, reports the Financial Times. Vodafone UK CEO Jeroen Hoencamp told the FT that it was 'unacceptable' for BT to load costs from other parts of its business onto Openreach, and then expect the rest of the industry to pay for this. BT apologises after broadband service outage

BT has apologised after a major outage left thousands of customers across the UK left without broadband services, reports BBC News. BT blamed a faulty router for the outage and insisted that services had been fully restored by around 23.00 hours. BT phones services were not affected by the outage.

BT upgrades mobile TV app with new features

BT has launched an upgraded version of its TV app for Apple and Android devices. The upgraded app features a dedicated kids' on-demand and catch-up library, seven more channels and a wide collection of premium entertainment catch-up content. BT responsible for 1 in 3 illegal roadworks in London

BT is responsible for 1 in 3 illegal roadworks in London, reports the Guardian. Data from Transport for London (TfL) shows that London commuters have been delayed by more illegal roadworks for BT than for any other utility provider. BT has just been fined more than GBP 6,000 by Westminster magistrates court for another offence, its 28th prosecution in the last five years. It has been issued fixed penalties for another 650 infringements.

BT announces new organisational structure

Following its acquisition of EE, BT has announced a new organisational structure that will take effect from April. This new structure will see the group organised into six lines of business. Two will serve consumers, two will serve the wholesale sector, and two will focus on businesses and the public sector - one in the UK and Ireland, and the other globally. These six divisions will be supported by Technology, Service and Operations, led by Howard Watson.

British Telecom announced that CEO of BT's Wholesale business, Nigel Stagg, left the company. Nigel spent 36 years with the company in a variety of roles and is now planning to explore other options. BT revenues boosted by strong broadband growth

BT reported revenues for its fiscal third quarter to December up 4 percent year-on-year to GBP 4.637 billion, led by strong growth at its consumer retail activities. Excluding the transit business, organic revenue rose 4.7 percent. Adjusted EBITDA increased 3 percent to GBP 1.613 billion, and adjusted pretax profit was up 14 percent to GBP 928 million, helped by lower interest charges. Orange completes sale of EE stake to BT

Orange announced that it completed the sale of its 50 percent stake in UK mobile operator EE to BT on 29 January. Following the distribution by EE of a GBP 60.5 million interim dividend in the third quarter of 2015 and a GBP 131.5 million final dividend on 25 January, Orange has received GBP 3.438 billion in cash and a 4 percent stake in the enlarged BT group. EE CEO Swantee to step down after BT takeover

UK operator EE announced that its CEO Olaf Swantee will leave the company after BT completes its planned takeover of EE. Subject to formal regulatory approval and upon completion of the deal, EE will become part of the BT Group, creating a new line of business.
