Cambium announces successful field trials with 60 GHz FWA platform

Cambium Networks has announced multiple successful deployments of its 60 GHz cnWave platform, to offer wireless broadband based on Facebook's Terragraph technology. The company said the platform had been proven in "dozens of field installations" with service providers in Australia, Malaysia, Puerto Rico, the UK and the US, delivering multi-gigabit throughput to urban business, residential and industrial locations.

Cambium's 60 GHz cnWave solution uses Facebook Connectivity's Terragraph technology and the latest 802.11ay compliant technology from Qualcomm Technologies. The 60 GHz cnWave platform is fully integrated into Cambium's LINKPlanner and cnMaestro cloud management for wireless networks and can provide connectivity for residential users, schools, enterprises and industrial operations at a low total cost of ownership, according to the company.

Malaysia's YTL Communications is using Cambium's 60 GHz cnWave solution in its trials in Penang. This deployment will eliminate the need to trench fibre in the Unesco heritage city while creating a new multi-gigabit wireless infrastructure.

NextLink in the US has installed cnWave in trials in Texas and shares field results. It achieved close to 1.8 Gbps uplink and downlink speeds using Cambium's equipment in a single channel configuration, well ahead of its tests with previous variations of 60 GHz equipment. It plans to test also the upcoming channel bonding feature which combines two channels to deliver even higher speeds.

AeroNet, a service provider in Puerto Rico recently completed a 60 GHz cnWave installation. The deployment brought multi-gigabit connectivity to a centuries-old walled city that lacked fiber connectivity. They had already been using Cambium products for 18 years to deliver fixed wireless access.

Rapier Systems, specialists in the design, installation and support of wireless networks in the UK, also has been testing the Cambium Networks cnWave solution. The deployment is anticipated to deliver up to 1000 Mbps in a very cost-effective manner, without the delays associated with fibre, the company said.

Cambium will be holding webinars to discuss the products and field results on 20 and 28 October.
