China Broadcasting Network goes live in Beijing, becomes China's fourth telecom operator
China Broadcasting Network was launched in Beijing, becoming the country's fourth telecom operator. China Broadcasting Network leverages a registered capital of CNY 101.2 billion (approximately USD 15.1 billion), local newspaper China Daily reports. China Broadcasting Network will provide 5G services in partnership with China Mobile, and is also expected to offer 4G services in the future.

China Broadcasting Network’s five largest shareholders are China Broadcasting Network Corporation (51% stake), State Grid Information & Telecommunication, Alibaba Venture Capital Management, Guangdong Radio Television Network and Beijing All Media and Culture.

Back in June 2019, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology granted commercial 5G licenses to the country’s three major operators China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom, as well as to China Broadcasting Network.

China Mobile - China Broadcasting Network 5G network co-construction and sharing deal 

Back in May this year, China Mobile announced a framework agreement on 5G network co-construction and sharing with China Broadcasting Network (CBN). China Mobile holds a licence for using the 2.6GHz and 4.9GHz frequency bands for 5G, while CBN obtained an operating permit for 5G in the 700MHz and 4.9GHz bands. The parties plan to make the most of their respective advantages and, together with their respective affiliated companies, work together on building and sharing 5G infrastructure as well as content and platform collaboration. 

China ends August with more than 1.6 billion mobile customers

China Telecom added the most new mobile subscribers in China in August, growing by around 1.6 million to a total of 347.69 million. Market leader China Mobile lost another 473,000 customers to reach 945.90 million, and China Unicom lost 886,000 in the month to 308.66 million. China Mobile reached over 98.15 million 5G subscribers during August, adding more than 14 million during the month. China Telecom also added over 12.12 million 5G users, for a total of 52.53 million.
