Comcast increases top speed on fibre network to 3 Gbps

The US's largest ISP, Comcast has increased its top internet speed to 3 Gbps, a 50 percent boost from the previous top tier of 2 Gbps. The 3 Gbps broadband service is available only in areas where the cable operator has rolled out FTTH. 

The residential Gigabit Pro service still costs USD 300 per month, with a minimum two-year contract. The fibre coverage is available mainly on the West Coast of the US as well as selected large cities in other regions.

Comcast launches new Wi-Fi 6E gateway

Comcast announced its next generation xFi Advanced Gateway that incorporates WiFi 6E. Comcast's most powerful device to date, the new gateway will boost capacity in the home with three Wi-Fi bands – 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and the new 6 GHz band. The increased spectrum is expected to help reduce interference and increase bandwidth in the home up to three-fold, Comcast said. The gateway is also Comcast's first to support symmetrical gigabit speeds.

Comcast to raise prices in January

Comcast is planning to raise the price of the average monthly bill, including video, internet and voice, by an average of 3 percent nationwide, TVAnswerman.com reported. The company will also raise the regional sports channel fee and broadcast TV fee by up to USD 7 month combined. The increase is in line with the year before, when prices also went up by about 3.2 percent and sports and broadcast fees increased by up to USD 6.50 per month.

Comcast renews content carriage deal with Disney

Comcast and The Walt Disney Company have renewed a content carriage agreement that will continue to make Disney's lineup of sports, news, kids, family and general entertainment programming available to Xfinity TV customers.
