
Deutsche Telekom said it plans to operate an initial 150 5G antennas across Europe in Q1. Telekom is testing the 5G field sites, based on the New radio standard, in Austria, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Poland and the Netherlands.
At MWC, the operator also announced that it is cooperating with Osram to build a campus 5G network at the Osram plant in Schwabmunchen in Southern Germany. The campus network covers mobile communications within a defined area for specific applications. It will combine the public and the private LTE network into a common infrastructure.
In addition, Deutsche Telekom is working on setting up a local edge cloud for data processing close to the application with low latency. This will be demonstrated with its partners MobiledgeX and Niantic with the game 'Codename: Neon, a multiplayer game supported by edge computing.
