Dish close to deal for USD 6 bln in T-Mobile, Sprint assets - report

Dish Network is in talks to pay at least USD 6 billion for assets that T-Mobile US and Sprint are selling to win regulatory approval for their merger, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg. Dish could announce a deal as soon as this week for assets including spectrum and Sprint’s Boost Mobile brand, the report said.

The potential divestitures are aimed at appeasing the Justice Department, which wants T-Mobile and Sprint to sell enough assets to ensure that a fourth viable mobile operator emerges in the US. Dish already has significant spectrum assets and has been working on developing its own wireless network.

Representative for Dish and the Justice Department declined to comment. Representatives for T-Mobile and Sprint didn’t respond to requests for comment.
