The penetration of the Facebook app on Dutch smartphones fell by 1.1 million installations since the fourth quarter of last year, according to the Dutch Apps Market report from Telecompaper. In total, 68 percent of Dutch smartphones had the app installed in Q3 2018, down from 74 percent in Q4 2017.
Facebook Messenger was also less often installed. There were 850,000 less installations, taking the penetration of the Facebook Messenger app to 56 percent in Q3 from 62 percent in Q4 2017.
Instagram and Snapchat penetration grows
Meanwhile, the number of Instagram and Snapchat installations has grown in recent quarters. The number of installations for the Instagram app lifted by 4 percentage points while Snapchat saw its penetration increase by 3 percentage points.
Despite the growth in the penetration of the Snapchat app, Telecompaper noted a decrease in the number of installations among under-30s. The decline started when Snapchat introduced its new interface, a move that was badly received by many of its original, and young, users.
