Global tablet shipments down 7% in Q2, Huawei and Amazon buck trend
The global tablet market declined by another 7 percent year-on-year in the second quarter, following a 5 percent fall in Q1, according to the latest report by Strategy Analytics. Total shipments came to 37.4 million in the April to June period, compared to 40.4 million a year earlier, with Apple maintaining a 29 percent share of the global tablet market in spite of a 7 percent year-on-year fall to 10.7 million units.

Second-placed Samsung and fifth-placed Lenovo exceeded market shipment growth, yet still showed declines of -1 percent and -6 percent to 4.9 million and 1.9 million, respectively. The report indicates that Samsung has been stabilising its tablet shipments over the last couple of quarters and could regain some Android customers in view of Huawei’s trade difficulties outside China.

The Chinese vendor remained in third place with shipments up 4 percent to 3.9 million in the second quarter despite being blacklisted by the US Commerce Department's Entity List in May. Amazon overtook Lenovo to move up to fourth in the ranking after shipping 2.0 million units in Q2, up 38 percent year on year.
