
HMD Global unveiled at MWC in Barcelona a new flagship smartphone, the Nokia 9 PureView with five cameras and wireless charging. The company also presented new entry-level smartphones with premium features such as large displays and long battery life and its latest feature phone.
The Nokia 9 PureView is already shipping in selected markets and will gradually roll out worldwide in the coming weeks at a recommended price of USD 699/EUR 599. In line with industry trends, HMD has introduced a five-camera system, using its Zeiss optics, as well as a 5.99-inch pOLED 'PureDisplay' QHD+ screen and Qi wireless charging. In addition, the company is launching its own 10W wireless charger and a portable wireless powerbank, which also work with the earlier Nokia 8 Sirocco.
The Nokia 9 PureView's rear camera has two colour sensors and three monochromatic sensors, which give sharpness and detail. All five work together to collect up to 10 times the amount of light of a single colour sensor of the same type, the company said. Every image captured by the Nokia 9 PureView is HDR, with up to 12.4 stops of dynamic range and a full scene 12MP depth map to help create bokeh effects.
In addition to the updated Pro Camera UI, the phone comes with a 20-megapixel front camera and dedicated imaging co-processor, as well as on-phone editing through a partnership with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. Other features include the Snapdragon 845 processor, 6 GB RAM, in-screen fingerprint sensor, LTE Cat 16 with support for 4x4 MIMO, 3,320 mAh battery and 128 GB internal storage
HMD Global maintains the commitment to Android One and three years of updates with its new range, as well as dedicated buttons for Google Assistant. The new portfolio also includes:
- The Nokia 4.2, which will launch in April for USD 169 with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage and USD 199 for 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage. With a sculpted-glass design, selfie notch and 19:9 display, the 5.71-inch phone is designed to offer high-end features such as a double rear camera with depth sensing at an affordable price. Available in black or pink, the phone runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 chip.
- The Nokia 3.2 will be available to buy in early May for USD 139 for 2 GB+16GB or USD 169 for 3GB+32GB and a fingerprint sensor. It comes with a big 6.26-inch HD+ display and promised two-day battery life from the 4,000 mAh battery. It runs the Snapdragon 429 processor and includes a 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front camera with face unlock. .
- The Nokia 1 Plus will launch mid-March for USD 99. It's one of the first Android 9 smartphone running the Android Go edition for entry-level devices and also comes with a large screen, plus an auto-focus rear camera and front camera with beauty mode.
- The new feature phone, the Nokia 210 will be available from March for USD 35. Designed for first-time internet users, it comes with the Opera Mini browser and Facebook loaded, and users can download more apps from the Mobile Store.
