HTC plans wearable device, new One in 2014

HTC is hoping a new version of its flagship One smartphone and its first wearable device will help turnaround its results this year. Chang Chialin, CFO and head of global sales for the company, said in an interview with Bloomberg that the company is "optimistic" about 2014 compared to last year. A wearable device will be available by this year’s Christmas shopping season after years of development and technical challenges, Chairman Cher Wang said. She said the company had been working to solve battery and LCD light problems, before bringing the product to market.

Wang, who co-founded the company with CEO Peter Chou and former CEO HT Cho in 1997, said HTC plans to renew its marketing efforts after last year’s well-received One smartphone failed to boost revenue. She declined to say if the overall marketing budget will increase, saying it was more important how the money is spent. The company also plans a wider array of products this year to try and target more customer segments. Chang admitted 2013 "wasn't a good year" for HTC, and the company is working to improve its mid-range and low-end portfolio.
