Huawei said that its planned French 4G/5G equipment factory will be located in a business park near the town of Brumath (Grand-Est region), close to the German border between Strasbourg and Haguenau. In a joint statement with French local authorities, the Chinese group confirmed that it will invest EUR 200 million in the project and create initially 300 direct jobs, rising to 500 in the long-term.
Huawei decided to install its first 5G manufacturing site in Europe at the end of 2019. In February, it announced that the facility would be built in France and that the factory output would amount to EUR 1 billion worth of mobile network equipment annually. The project was described as proof of the company’s positive stance on Europe's call for digital sovereignty.
Huawei’s presence in Europe is already well established, with 23 R&D centres, more than 100 collaborations with universities, and a network of 3,100 suppliers.
