Huawei has announced the release in China of the Mate X2 flagship smartphone, its first dual-screen foldable device since the Mate X back in 2019. The Mate X2 features an inward-folding display along the lines of the Galaxy Z Fold 2, with a diagonal screen size of 8 inches and a resolution of 2480x2200. The external display measures 6.45 inches with a 2700x1160 resolution. Both displays are OLED with a refresh rate of 90Hz and come with a “magnetically-controlled nano optical layer” to minimise reflection.
The Mate X2 is powered by Huawei’s flagship Kirin 9000 5G processor coupled with 8GB of RAM and a 4,400mAh battery that supports the company’s 55W SuperCharge10 technology. It runs the company's EMUI 11 user interface, based on Android 10. Additional features include a new smart antenna system that dynamically selects the best antenna for the phone, “whether folded or unfolded, held vertically or horizontally”, as well as an Ultra Vision Leica quad camera.
The latter encompasses a 50MP wide-angle lens with a RYYB colour filter array (CFA), a 12MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, an 8MP “SuperZoom” with 10x optical zoom, 20x hybrid zoom and 100x digital zoom, and a 16MP ultra wide selfie camera on the outside.
Huawei said the Mate X2 will be available in white, black, crystal blue and crystal pink with 256GB of internal storage for CNY 17,999 from 25 February, rising to CNY 18,889 for the 512GB version. The company refrained from disclosing details of availability outside its domestic market.
