Dutch operator KPN announced it's ending its OTT TV service KPN Play from 02 July. The company said there was insufficient demand for the service so it has decided to stop offering it. The service launched in 2015 attracted less than 5,000 subscribers, KPN told Telecompaper. Rival T-Mobile has also abandoned its OTT TV service Knippr.
KPN was the first Dutch operator to launch an OTT TV service, offering a smaller bundle of channels than traditional pay-TV for a lower price, available only over the internet. T-Mobile followed in 2016 with the service Knippr, but announced in March this year that the service would end from 01 June. Telecompaper estimates Knippr had less than 10,000 subscribers.
Subscribers of KPN Play can continue to use the service until 02 July, and the website will remain available until October for customers to download bills. Customer service for KPN Play will remain active until 13 July.
