Microsoft to rebrand Lync as Skype for Business
Microsoft has announced plans to rebrand its Lync unified communications software as Skype for Business. The company said the new product will "bring together the familiar experience and user love of Skype with the enterprise security, compliance and control from Lync". Skype for Business is due out in the first half of 2015. Current Lync Server customers will be able to update from Lync Server 2013 to the new Skype for Business Server in their data centres, with no new hardware required. For Office 365 customers, Microsoft will update their software automatically.

Microsoft unveils Skype for Business technical preview

Microsoft has announced the availability of a technical preview of Skype for Business, formerly known as Lync. In a blog post, the company said most software and hardware designed for Lync 2013 will be compatible with Skype for Business, which will be officially launched next month. Skype co-founder Janus Friis has launched a new communications app, dubbed Wire, that promises to combine high fidelity and elegant design. "Skype was launched more than a decade ago. Microsoft acquires enterprise security company Aorato

Microsoft has announced it has acquired enterprise security company Aorato. The Wall Street Journal reported that the company was bought for approximately USD 200 million, according to two people familiar with the matter. As a result of Microsoft's acquisition of the Israeli company, Microsoft will be able to offer customers a higher level of protection against threats and enhanced visibility into their identity infrastructure.

Microsoft adds Office for Android tablets

Microsoft is expanding its Office software on rival mobile platforms and adding new functionality.
